Slums

Sriniwaspuri is located in the southern part of Delhi, The area is divided in three distinct areas - Government colony, private colony and the slum clusters. The Government colony has LIG or Janta quarters, and residents here are employees of various government offices living with their families.

The private colony comprises largely of a Multani speaking community, whose ancestors had relocated to India , from Pakistan , during Independence This colony is very congested and is still grappling with basic issues such as water supply, electricity and encroachment and has many unregulated businesses such as provisional stores, dairies, confectionery shops, etc.

There are five slum clusters in Sriniwaspuri , that have mushroomed over the past two decades that is home to migrant laborers from other states, such as Bihar, West Bengal, Bangladesh and UP. . The main occupation of the residents here are vending, rickshaw pulling, Auto driving, scrap dealing and rag picking.
